Van Andel Institute Purple Community is a grassroots fundraising program whose dedicated volunteers support VAI’s mission of improving the health and enhancing the lives of current and future generations.

Purple Community is Van Andel Institute’s dynamic community awareness and fundraising program that connects individuals, schools, teams, companies and corporations, that want to join the fight against cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, to the resources needed for action.

Purple Community Cabinet

The Purple Community Cabinet is comprised of community leaders who want to make an impact on cancer, Parkinson’s disease and other research at Van Andel Institute through supporting the fundraising initiatives of the Purple Community program.

Student Ambassador Program

Work with your fellow Student Ambassadors to plan and execute one major fundraising event each school year, with support and mentorship from the Purple Community Cabinet Ambassadors and staff.

Virtual Leadership Conference

This fall, VAI is excited to take our leadership conference virtual. Teachers pick a date and time, and we handle the rest. It’s never too early to build up leadership skills in your students, and we want to help make it possible.

    Event Coordinator

    McKenzie is a graduate of Western Michigan University where she earned a degree in public relations and a minor in sociology. She is excited to work with a mission driven organization like Van Andel Institute (VAI). McKenzie will work as an event coordinator with Purple Community and bring people together to help directly fund ground breaking research at VAI. She will use her personality, organization, and compassion to create and assist with events. She has seen firsthand how a cancer diagnosis can affect loved ones and is passionate about the work that she is doing with Van Andel Institute’s Purple Community.
